Psalm 100 Alternate Versions

These alternate versions of Psalm 100 illustrate how a 4/4 time signature can be used, as well as an additional markup feature—Double Pickup Notes.

Modern Song Version

This version of Psalm 100 is arranged to feel like a modern song, and intended for group singing. No Opening Measures are used—this is intended to be learned and sung often.

Markup Changes—Double Pickup Notes

Psalm 100 begins like this in the original markup:

`Shout for joy_ to the LORD_ / all you lands!

Changing the first line to use a Double Pickup Note results in a natural-sounding emphasis on “joy,” which moves to the first beat of the measure:

Shout for `joy_ to the LORD_ / all you lands!

The same change is made on the first line of the second stanza, with the word “he” moving to the first beat of the measure:

It is `he_ who has made us, and_ / we are his.

4/4 Time Signature

A 4/4 time signature is used for this version. Each line fits in two measures (eight beats), giving it the feel of a modern song.

Personal Prayer Version

This version continues to use the Modern Song markup with Double Pickup Notes. It goes back to the standard 2/4 time signature for flexible line length.
