Psalm 106

Out of the Depths (130)

`Praise the LORD! Give thanks_ to the LORD, for / he is good,

`for his loving kind_ ness en / dures forever.

`Who_ can declare the mighty acts_ / of the LORD,

or `ful_ ly declare_ / all his praise? +

`Bless’d are those who / keep~ justice.

`Bless’d is one_ who does what is right at / all~ times.

Re `member me, LORD, with the favor that you show_ / to your people.

`Visit me with / your salvation,

`that I may enjoy_ the prosperity_ / of your chosen,

`that I may rejoice_ in the gladness / of your nation, • that `I may glory with_ your in / heritance.

(Ref)

`We have sinned_ / with our fathers.

`We_ have committed in_ / iquity.

`We_ have done / wickedly.

Our `fathers did not understand your wonders / in~ Egypt.

`They did / not remember

the `multitude_ of your loving / kindnesses,

but `were rebellious / at the sea

`at the / Red~ Sea.

`Yet he saved them for his / name’s~ sake,

that `he might make his mighty / power known.

`He rebuked the Red_ Sea and it was / dried~ up;

`so he led them through the depths, as / through a desert.

(Ref)

He `saved them from the hand_ of the / adversary,

`and redeemed them from the hand_ of the / enemy.

The `waters covered / their~ foes.

There `was not one of / them~ left.

`Then_ they be / lieved his words.

`They_  / sang his praise.

`But they soon for / got his works.

`They did not wait / for his counsel,

`but gave in to craving / in the desert,

and `tested God_ in the / waste~ land.

He `gave them / their request,

but `sent a wast_ ing disease a / mong~ them.

(Ref)

They `envied Moses / in the camp,

and `Aaron, who was consecrated / to the LORD.

The `earth opened and swallowed / up~ Dathan,

and `covered the_ company_ / of Abiram. +

A `fire_ was_ kindled in their / company.

The `flame burned / up the wicked.

They `made a / calf in Horeb,

and `wor_ shiped a / molten image.

`Thus_ they ex / changed their glory

`for an image of a bull that / eats~ grass.

`They forgot_ God, their / Sa~ vior,

`who had done great / things in Egypt,

`wondrous works_ in the / land of Ham,

and `awesome things_ by the / Red~ Sea.

(Ref)

`So he said he would de / stroy~ them,

had `Moses, his_ chosen, not_ stood before him / in the breach,

to `turn a / way his wrath,

`so that he would not de / stroy~ them.

`They despised the / pleasant land.

`They did not be / lieve his word,

but `murmured / in their tents,

and `did not listen to the voice_ / of the LORD.

`Therefore he_ / swore to them

that `he would overthrow them in the / wilderness,

that `he would overthrow their offspring a_ / mong the nations,

and `scatter them_ / in the lands.

(Ref)

They `joined themselves to Ba-al / Pe~ or,

and `ate the sacrifices / of the dead.

`Thus_ they provoked_ him to anger / with their deeds.

The `plague broke / in on them.

Then `Phinehas stood up and / intervened,

`so the / plague was stopped.

`That was credited to him for / righteousness,

`for all generations / to~ come.

They `angered him_ also at the waters of_ / Meribah,

`so that Moses was_ troubled / for their sakes;

be `cause they made his / spirit bitter,

`he spoke rashly / with his lips.

(Ref)

`They did not de / stroy the peoples,

`as the LORD com / manded them,

but `mixed themselves_ / with the nations,

and `learned_ / their~ works.

They `served their idols, which became a / snare to them.

They `even sacrificed their sons_ and their daughters / to~ demons.

`They shed innocent_ blood, the blood_ of their / sons and daughters,

`whom they sacrificed_ to the idols / of~ Canaan. • The `land_ was polluted / with~ blood.

`Thus they were defiled_ / by their acts,

and `prostituted themselves / by their deeds.

`Therefore the LORD burned with anger a_ / gainst his people.

`He abhorred_ his in / heritance.

(Ref)

`He gave them into the hand_ / of the nations.

`Those who hated them ruled / over them.

Their `enemies op / pressed~ them.

They `were subdued_ under / their~ hand.

He `rescued them_ / many times,

but `they were bent_ on rebellion, and brought low in their in / iquity.

`Nevertheless he regarded / their distress,

`when he / heard their cry.

For `their sake he remembered his_ / covenant,

`and relented ac_ cording to the multitude of his_ loving / kindnesses.

`He_ made them also / to be pitied

`by_ / all their captors.

(Ref)

`Save us, / LORD, our God,

`gather us_ from among the / na~ tions,

`to give thanks_ to your / holy name,

to `triumph / in your praise!  +

`Bles-sed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to_ / everlasting!

Let `all the people say, “Amen_.” / Hallelujah!
