`If the LORD had not been on our side, let Israel_ / now~ say,

`if the LORD had not been on our side, when people rose_ / up against us,

`then they would have swallowed us_ / up alive,

`when their wrath was kindled / against us,

`then the waters would have over / whelmed~ us, • • the `stream would have gone / over us.

`Then the proud_ waters would have gone_ / over us.

`Bles-sed / be the LORD,

who `has not given us as prey_ / to their teeth.
