Out of the Depths (130)

`Hear this, / all you peoples.
`Listen, all who live_ / in this world,
`both_ / low and high,
`rich and / poor together.
My `mouth will speak_ / words of wisdom.
My `heart will utter / understanding.
I `will incline my ear_ / to a proverb.
`I will solve my riddle / on the harp. +
`Why_ should I fear_ in the / days of evil,
`when iniquity_ at my heels sur / rounds~ me?
(Ref)
`Those who trust_ / in their wealth,
and `boast_ in the multitude_ / of their riches,
`none_ of them can by any means re / deem another,
`nor give God a ransom / for~ him.
`For_ the redemption of his / life is costly,
no `payment is_ ever / e~ nough,
that `he should live_ / on forever,
that `he should not_ / see corruption.
For `one can see_ that the / wise~ die;
`like_ wise the fool_ and the / senseless perish.
All_ leave their / wealth to others.
They `think their houses will en / dure forever, +
their `dwelling places to all / generations.
They `name their lands_ after / them~ selves.
(Ref)
But `man, despite his riches, will_ / not endure.
`He is like the animals that / pe~ rish.
`This_ is the destiny of those_ / who are foolish,
`and of those_ who ap / prove their words.
Selah.
`They_ are appointed as a flock for / She~ ol.
`Death shall / be their shepherd.
The `upright shall_ have dominion over them_ / in the morning.
Their `beauty shall decay in Sheol, with no / place to dwell. +
But `God_ will redeem me from the power / of~ Sheol,
for `he_ will re / ceive~ me.
Selah.
Do `not be overawed_ when a person / is made rich,
`when the glory of his house_ / is increased;
for `when he dies_ he will carry nothing / a~ way.
His `glory will_ not descend_ / after him.
Though `while he lives he counts him / self~ blessed,
and `people praise you when_ you do well_ / for yourself,
`he shall go_ to the generation of his / ancestors.
`He shall never / see the light. +
`A person who has riches without / understanding,
is `like the animals that / pe~ rish.
