Out of the Depths (130)

`Save me, / O~ God,
`for the waters have come up_ / to my neck!
`I sink in deep mire_, where there / is no foothold.
`I have come into deep waters, where the floods_ over / flow~ me.
`I am weary / with my crying. • • `My_ / throat is dry.
`My eyes fail_ looking / for my God.
`Those who hate me without cause are more_ than the hairs_ / of my head.
`Mighty are those who want to de / stroy~ me. +
`They attack me / with~ lies.
`What I did not steal I / must restore.
(Ref)
O `God, you know my / foolishness.
My `sins_ are not hidden / from~ you.
Do `not let those who wait for you be shamed through me_, Lord_ / GOD of hosts.
Do `not let those who seek you be disgraced through me_, God of / Israel.
Be `cause for your sake, I have en_ / dured~ scorn.
`Shame has covered / my~ face.
`I_ have become a stranger / to my brothers,
an `alien_ to my / mother’s children.
`For the zeal_ of your house con / sumes~ me.
The `taunts of those_ who taunt you have fallen / on~ me.
`When I wept_ / and I fasted,
`that was / to my scorn.
(Ref)
When `I made sackcloth / my~ clothing,
`I became a byword / to~ them.
`Those who sit_ in the gate_ / talk about me.
I `am the / song of drunkards.
But `as for me, my prayer_ is to / you~, LORD,
`for a / time of favor.
`God, in the abundance of your / loving kindness, • • `answer me_ in your saving / faithfulness.
De `liver me from sinking / in the mire.
`Let me be delivered from_ / those who hate me,
and `out of / the deep waters.
Do `not let the flood waters over / whelm~ me, • • `neither let the deep swal / low me up.
`Do not let the pit_ shut its / mouth on me.

Ac `cording to_ your abundant tender mercies, / turn to me.
`Do not hide your face_ from your servant, for_ I am / in distress.
`Answer me_ / speedily!
Draw `near to me_ and re / deem~ me.
`Ransom me because of my_ / enemies.
`You know my disgrace, my shame, and / my dishonor.
My `adversaries are_ all be / fore~ you.
`Scorn has broken my_ heart, and I am full of / heaviness.
I `looked for some to take_ pity, but_ / there was none; • for `comforters, but / I found none.
They `gave me gall_ / for my food.
`In my thirst, they gave me vi-ne / gar to drink.
(Ref)
`Let their table before them be / come a snare.
May `it become a retribution / and a trap.
`Let their eyes be darkened, so they / cannot see.
`Let their backs be / always bent.
`Pour_ out your indignation / on~ them.
`Let the fierceness of your anger over / take~ them.
`Let their habitation be_ / desolate.
Let `no one dwell_ / in their tents.
`For they persecute_ him whom / you have wounded.
`They tell of the sorrow of_ those whom / you have hurt.
`Charge_ them with crime up / on~ crime.
`Do not let them come into your / righteousness.
(Ref)
`Let them be_ blotted out_ of the / book of life,
and `not be written / with the righteous.
But `as for me, I am in pain_ / and distress.
`Let_ your salvation, O_ God, pro / tect~ me.
`I will praise the name of God_ / with a song,
`and will magnify him / with thanksgiving.
`It will please the LORD_ better / than an ox,
`or a bull_ that has / horns and hoofs.
The `humble have_ seen it, / and are glad.
`You who seek_ after God_, / take~ heart.
`For the LORD_ / hears the needy,
`and does not despise his / captive people.
Let `heaven and_ earth_ / praise~ him;
the `seas, and ev’rything that / moves in them!
For `God_ will save Zion, and_ build the cities / of~ Judah.
`They shall settle there, and / own~ it. +
