Psalm 79

Hear Us, Shepherd (80)

O `God, the nations have invaded your in / heritance.

`They_ have defiled your / holy temple. • `They have laid Jerusa / lem in heaps.

`They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food_ for the birds_ / of the sky,

the `flesh_ of your servants to the animals_ / of the earth.

`They have shed their blood like water a_ round Je / rusalem.

`There was no one to_ / bury them.

`We have become a disgrace_ / to our neighbors,

the `scorn_ and derision of_ those who are a / round~ us.

(Ref)

How `long, O LORD? Will you be angry for_ / e~ ver?

`Will your jealousy_ / burn like fire?

`Pour out your wrath on the nations that_ / do not know you,

`on the kingdoms that do not call / on your name,

`for they have de / voured~ Jacob,

`and destroyed his / home~ land.

`Do not hold_ the iniquities_ of our forefathers a / gainst~ us.

`Let your tender mercies quickly meet us, for we are in / desp’rate need.

`Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory / of your name.

De `liver us_, and forgive our sins, for / your name’s sake.

`Why_ should the /  nations say,

`“Where_ / is their God?”

(Ref)

`Let_ it be known among the nations, be_ / fore our eyes,

that `vengeance for your servants’ blood is being / poured~ out.

`Let the sighing of the prisoner_ come be / fore~ you.

Ac `cording to the greatness / of your power, • pre `serve those who are sentenced / to~ death.

`Pay back to our neighbors seven times in / to their laps

their `taunts with which they have_ taunted / you~, Lord.

So `we, your people and sheep of your pasture, will_ give you / thanks forever.

`We will praise_ you forever, to all / generations.
