Psalm 81

O Come (95)

`Sing aloud to / God, our strength!

`Make a joyful shout_ to the / God of Jacob!

`Raise a song, and strike the / tambourine,

the `pleasant lyre_ / with the harp.

`Blow the trumpet at the / New~ Moon,

`at the full moon, on our / feast~ day.

`For it is a statute for_ / Israel,

an `ordinance_ of the / God of Jacob.

(Ref)

`He appointed it in Joseph for a / covenant,

when `he went out over the / land of Egypt,

I `heard a language I_ / had not known:

`“I removed your shoulder / from the burden.

Your `hands were freed_ / from the basket.

You `called in trouble, and_ I de / livered you.

I `answered you_ in the secret / place of thunder.

I `tested you_ at the waters of_ / Meribah.”

Selah.

`“Hear, my people, and_ I will testi / fy to you,

`Israel, if you would listen / to~ me!

`There shall be no strange_ / god in you,

`neither shall you worship any / foreign god.

(Ref)

I `am the LORD, your God, who brought you up out of the / land of Egypt.

`Open your mouth wide, and / I will fill it.

`But my people did not listen / to my voice.

`Israel desired_ / none of me.

`So I let them go after the stubbornness_ / of their hearts,

that `they might walk in / their own plans.

`Oh_ that my people would_ listen / to~ me,

that `Israel would walk_ / in my ways!

`I would soon subdue their / enemies,

and `turn my hand against their / adversaries.”

The `haters of the LORD would cower / to~ him,

`and their punishment would / last forever. +

But `he would feed_ you_ with the finest / of~ wheat.

`“I will satisfy you with_ honey / from the rock.”
