Psalm 89

The LORD Reigns (93)

`I will sing_ of the loving kindness of the LORD for / e~ ver.

`With my mouth, I will make known your faithfulness to all_ / generations.

`I indeed declare_, “Love stands firm for / e~ ver.

`You established / the~ heavens. • • Your `faithfulness is / in~ them.”

`“I have made a covenant_ with my / chosen one,

`I have sworn to David, / my~ servant,

`I_ will establish your_ off_ spring for / e~ ver,

`and build up your throne to all_ / generations.”

Selah.

(Ref)

The `heavens will_ praise your / wonders, LORD,

your `faithfulness in the assembly of the / holy ones.

For `who_ in the skies can be compared_ / to the LORD?

`Who among the heavenly_ beings is_ / like the LORD,

a `very awesome God_ in the council of the / holy ones,

`to be feared above all those who are a / round~ him?

`LORD_, God of hosts, who is a mighty / one, like you?

`LORD, your faithfulness is / all around you.

`You_ rule the pride_ / of the sea.

`When its waves rise up, you / calm~ them.

`You have broken Rahab in_ pieces, like one / of the slain.

`You have scattered your_ enemies_ with your / mighty arm.

(Ref)

The `heavens are_ yours. The earth is / also yours,

the `world_ and its fullness. You have / founded them.

`You_ have created the_ north_ / and the south.

`Tabor and_ Hermon re_ joice_ / in your name.

`You_ have a / mighty arm.

Your `hand is strong_, and your right hand is ex / al~ ted.

`Righteousness and justice are the foun_ dation / of your throne.

`Loving kindness and_ faithfulness_ go be / fore your face.

`Bless’d_ are the people who learn to ac / claim~ you.

`They walk in the light_ of your / presence, LORD.

In `your name they rejoice_ / all~ day.

`In your righteousness, they / are exalted.

(Ref)

For `you_ are the glory / of their strength.

`In your favor, our_ horn will be ex / al~ ted.

`For our shield belongs_ / to the LORD,

our `king_ to the Holy One of / Israel.

`Then you spoke_ in a vision to your / faithful ones,

and `said_, “I have given strength_ to the / warrior. • I `have exalted a young man_ / from the people.

`I have found_ David, / my~ servant.

I `have anointed him_ with my / holy oil.

My `hand shall be established / with~ him.

My `arm will also / strengthen him.

No `enemy will / tax~ him.

No `wicked one_ will op / press~ him.

(Ref)

`I_ will beat down his foes be / fore~ him,

and `strike_ those who / hate~ him.

`But my faithfulness_ and my loving kindness will be / with~ him.

`In my name, his horn will / be exalted.

`I will set his hand_ / on the sea,

`and his right hand / on the rivers.

`He will call to me, ‘You / are my Father,

my `God_, and the rock of / my salvation!’

`I will also appoint him my / first~ born,

the `highest of the kings_ / of the earth.

`I will keep my loving kindness for him for_ / ever more.

My `covenant will stand_ / firm with him. +

`I will also make his offspring en_ / dure forever,

`and his throne_ as the / days of heaven.

(Ref)

`If his children for_ / sake my law,

and `do not walk in my_ / just decrees;

`if they break my statutes, and do not keep / my commandments;

then `I will punish their sin / with the rod, • and `their iniquity_ / with~ stripes. +

But `I will not completely take my loving kindness / from~ him,

`nor allow my faithful / ness to fail.

I `will not break my / covenant,

nor `alter what my / lips have uttered.

`Once for all I have sworn by my / holiness,

I `will not / lie to David.

His `offspring will en / dure forever,

his `throne_ like the sun be / fore~ me.

`It will be established for_ ever / like the moon,

the `faithful witness / in the sky.”

Selah.

Second tune: In My Distress (120)

`But you have rejected / and~ spurned.

`You_ have been angry with_ / your anointed.

`You_ have renounced the covenant_ / of your servant.

`You_ have defiled his crown_ / in the dust.

`You have broken down_ / all his hedges.

`You have brought his strongholds / to~ ruin.

`All who pass_ by the way_ / plunder him.

He `has become the scorn_ / of his neighbors.

(Ref)

`You_ have exalted the right hand_ / of his foes.

`You have made all of his enemies_ / re~ joice.

In `deed_, you turn back the edge of / his~ sword,

`and have not supported / him in battle.

`You have ended / his~ splendor,

and `cast his throne down / to the ground.

`You have shortened the days / of his youth.

`You have covered / him with shame.

Selah.

(Ref)

`How long, LORD_? Will you hide your / self forever?

`Will your wrath_ / burn like fire?

Re `member how_ short my / time~ is,

for `what futility you have created all the children / of mankind! +

`Who can live and / not see death,

`who can save himself_ from the power / of~ Sheol?

Selah.

`Lord where are your former loving / kindnesses,

`which you swore to David in your / faithfulness?

Re `member, Lord_, how your servants / are~ mocked,

how `I bear in my heart the taunts of / all the nations, +

the `taunts with which your enemies have / mocked~, LORD,

`with which they have mocked the footsteps of_ your a / nointed one. +

`Bles-sed be the LORD for / ever more.

A `men, and / A~ men.
