Out of the Depths (130)

`Lord_ you have been our / dwelling place
for `all_ / generations.
Be `fore the mountains / were~ born, • • be `fore_ you had formed the earth_ / and the world,
from `everlasting to_ everlasting, / you are God.
You `turn mankind to dust_, / say~ ing,
“Re `turn, you children / of mankind.”
`For a thousand years_ in your sight are just like yesterday when / it is past,
`like a watch_ / in the night.
(Ref)
`You sweep them away_ / as they sleep.
`In the morning they_ sprout like / new~ grass.
`In the morning it_ sprouts and / springs~ up.
By `evening, it is withered / and~ dry.
`For we are consumed_ / in your anger.
`We are troubled / in your wrath.
`You have set_ our iniquities be / fore~ you,
our `secret sins_ in the light_ / of your presence.
For `all our days have passed away_ / in your wrath.
We `bring our years_ to an end_ / as a sigh.
The `days_ of our years are seventy, or eighty if our / strength endures;
`yet their span_ is but labor / and~ sorrow, • • `for it passes quickly, and we / fly away.
(Ref)
`Who_ knows the power / of your anger,
your `wrath according to the fear_ that is / due to you?
`So teach us to / count our days,
that `we may gain a / heart of wisdom.
Re `lent_, LORD!_ / How~ long?
`Have compassion / on your servants!
`Satisfy us in the morning with your / loving kindness,
`that we may rejoice_ and be glad_ / all our days.
`Make us glad_ for as many days as you_ have af / flicted us,
`for as many years as we have / seen~ evil.
`Let your work appear_ / to your servants,
your `glory / to their children. +
`Let the favor of the Lord our God be / on~ us.
Es `tab_ lish the work_ of our / hands for us. • • Es `tab_ lish the work_ / of our hands.
